Symposium on "Taboos—Striking them down and striking back."

February 3, 1992

Audio recording of the second of a multi-part event on feminism over the last 30 years and its influence on women writers. The series was organized to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the PEN Women Writers' Committee. The theme of this symposium is taboos and, as the moderator notes, striking them down and striking back. A writer's relationship to taboos, the divisions of feminists, and living inside taboos are discussed by the various speakers. Sharon Olds reads two of her poems of "When It Comes" and "Once". Jewelle Gomez, Lisa Alther, and Meredith Tax participate.
